Liverpool are tracking Jeremy Frimpong to face Real Madrid. Chelsea and Liverpool are competing with Real Madrid to sign Bayer Leverkusen’s 22-year-old Dutch defender Jeremy Frimpong.
According to the Spanish publication Depor, Jeremy Frimpong’s stock continued to rise. The 22-year-old defender has been a target for Real Madrid ahead of the 2024 summer transfer window, with Chelsea and Liverpool also interested in signing him from Bundesliga club Bayer Leverkusen next year.
Jeremy Frimpong has become one of the Bundesliga’s best defenders since joining Bayer Leverkusen from Celtic in January 2021.
The Dutchman was a promising right-back when he arrived at the BayArena three years ago. But he never expected his share price to rise so much.
The 22-year-old has developed into a versatile defender who scores goals for fun. Frimpong has had a strong start to the 2023/24 campaign, scoring five goals and seven assists in 16 games so far.
Meanwhile, the teenager’s exploits have not gone unnoticed, attracting interest from Chelsea, Liverpool and Real Madrid. Real Madrid have long shown interest in the former Celtic defender.
The Merengues have been tracking the young defender for a long time and believe he is one of the candidates to become Dani Carvajal’s long-term successor.
And Frimpong’s performance in the final third shows he can succeed the experienced Spaniard at Real Madrid. As for Chelsea, the Blues signed Marlo Gusteau from Lyon last summer. Mauricio Pochettino therefore has two top right backs.
So while Chelsea may not need another option, Real Madrid’s continued interest in James could make them interested in a potential replacement.
Furthermore, given Trent Alexander-Arnold’s status in the squad, Liverpool may not need a right-back for some time. The England international will be Liverpool’s next captain and is one of the first names on the team sheet. This is why Liverpool’s interest in Frimpong is surprising.
However, Chelsea and Liverpool are interested in signing the 22-year-old defender from Bayer Leverkusen. However, Real Madrid should be in the best position to sign Frimpong from a top Bundesliga club.
