Andy Townsend was far from pleased with Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez in the win against Everton.
The London club played host to the Toffees at Stamford Bridge on Saturday afternoon and won the game 1-0.
Nicolas Jackson scored the only goal of the contest but it was enough to secure the three points for the hosts.
Fernandez slammed despite Chelsea win
Despite Chelsea winning the game, Townsend was far from pleased with what he saw from the Argentine midfielder.
In the second half, the Argentina international wanted to start a counter-attack by playing a long diagonal but he made a complete mess of the pass.
This handed possession back to the Toffees who then started an attack of their own as they aimed to scored an equaliser. They failed to make the most of it from that action, but given the game state, what Fernandez did was not something the talkSPORT pundit agreed with. Speaking to Premier League Productions, Townsend said (26 April, 2:07 pm): “That’s a waste from Enzo Fernandes. My goodness.”
Everton improved in the second half
The Toffees were chasing the game since Nicolas Jackson’s first-half goal put the hosts in the ascendancy.
After a quiet first half, they managed to pick things up in the second half.
In the second period, Everton displayed remarkable energy and cohesion, transforming the match into a showcase of their resilience and tactical discipline.
The Toffees pressed with intensity, seamlessly coordinating their movements to disrupt Chelsea’s rhythm while creating dangerous attacking opportunities.
This dynamic shift was a testament to David Moyes’ masterful management, as his half-time talk clearly galvanised the squad.
The Scotsman deserves immense credit for instilling a renewed sense of purpose, ensuring his players executed his strategy with precision and passion.
The unity and vigour Everton exhibited not only frustrated Chelsea but also highlighted Moyes’ ability to inspire his team to perform at their peak when it mattered most.
