Chris Sutton has branded allegations that Gary Neville is settling for Manchester City “very unfair”. The former Premier League star explained that Sutton City have faced four tough opponents in a row and still believe they are the best team in the division.

City lost 1-0 at Aston Villa on Wednesday night after four games without a win against Chelsea, Liverpool and Tottenham. No team under Pep Guardiola has scored fewer goals (2) or created more chances for opponents than City did against Villa (22).

Speaking on Mail Sport’s It’s All Kicking Off podcast, Ian Ladyman criticized their “poor” attack against Villa, while Sutton believes they have “sunk” but sees no crisis. Manchester City lost 1-0 to Aston Villa and are looking to bounce back from a four-match clean sheet.

Gary Neville says Pep Guardiola’s side are suffering from “stagnation” this season.Let’s not blame Manchester City. None of your sensational journalism.

“Does not make sense.” He told Ladyman on Mail Sport’s Where It All Begins podcast.“If he (Neville) had expressed his displeasure with Manchester City, I don’t know how he would rate him. I don’t think they are comfortable. I think the level has dropped a lot.

“But if you look at their last games, they are in trouble, they beat Chelsea at home, they beat Liverpool at home, they beat Tottenham at home and they lost to Aston Villa.

They have a record at home.”We were still competing for the title. They are still the best team. They have been the most consistent team for several seasons. I think that’s why no one writes.”If we use the word crisis, we can use the word crisis.

Manchester City in crisis? That’s true, but they live by different standards and we judge them by different standards than other people.Lady agreed with Sutton, but tried to put Neville’s words into more context.

Manchester United won the treble in 1999 and were under enormous pressure to do so again the following season. At the end of the 1999/2000 season in October, United were in third place after a heavy 5-0 defeat to Chelsea, having won one of their last five games.

The season was difficult after he achieved a hat-trick in five consecutive games with just one win, including a 5-0 defeat at Chelsea in October 1999.Sutton argued that we judge City by different standards depending on the standards they set for themselves.

Sir Alex Ferguson wanted his team to rediscover their ruthlessness and after Christmas they did just that. They have won 15 of their last 19 games and lost just once in their quest for the title.

Ladyman said: “Having seen Gary play against Tottenham this weekend and what he said before last night’s defeat, he’s certainly relaxed.” He had no doubt about it.And he said Alex Ferguson had performed below his standards in the year after Manchester United won the treble in 1999.

“I know you’re bored. I can be bored too.” If you say you’re bored, I can win when you’re bored. Make sure you are ready for the end of this important season.”

“And I think Gary Neville has found things too easy at City and is struggling to get promoted.” “It’s a very interesting psychological observation about what’s going on at Manchester City.”

Sutton respected Neville’s experience and what he saw in the United dressing room, but still felt it was unfair to accuse them of complacency. He said: “Gary Neville can talk about his experiences. Of course he can.

That’s how he lived and I don’t dispute what he said about Manchester United. But it’s easy to say that if it doesn’t suit Manchester City, the team gets complacent. sample room.

“I think they fell. I mentioned who they played, the last performance and it wasn’t a disaster at all. They are flying in the Champions League, still in contention for the Premier League title, and swimming.

We hold Manchester City to a different standard because of their consistency since Pep Guardiola took over.“And it looked great.

The consistency level was good but slightly diminished. However, they drew with Chelsea, Liverpool and Tottenham and lost to Aston Villa.
