Club is waiting for Liverpool to “officially announce” transfer as they “are calling him”

Liverpool are set to welcome 20-year-old Calvin Ramsay back to the club with the decision made to cancel his one-year loan spell with Preston North End.

PNE boss Ryan Lowe confirmed the call has been made by the Reds with it just a matter of time until the Merseyside outfit announces it.

“We’ve got no information on it yet, but Liverpool are calling him back.

“We are just waiting on them to officially announce it, but he has gone back to Liverpool yeah,” Lowe told the Lancashire Post.

Ramsay has struggled to break into the first team ranks at Liverpool since his £6.5 million transfer from Aberdeen in 2022.

With the young right-back now heading back to the club, what’s the plan?

What is Liverpool’s plan for Calvin Ramsay?
Ahead of his return to Liverpool, it seems Ramsay has taken some time off and has enjoyed a trip to Paris where he visited the Eiffel Tower.

While nothing official has been reported about Liverpool’s plans for Ramsay for the rest of the season, there are two obvious options.

Liverpool can either:

Integrate him back into the first team squad
Send him back on loan
It seems likely they will send him back out on loan although Jurgen Klopp may prefer to keep him in the squad due to Trent Alexander-Arnold’s minor knee ligament injury.

The 25-year-old suffered a minor lateral ligament tear against Arsenal but Conor Bradley filled his role brilliantly as the Reds came from a goal down to beat Fulham 2-1 in the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final.

Regular game time has been hard for Bradley to come by. Much like Fabio Carvalho, his loan spell this season has not gone to plan as he has played just 120 minutes of football.

That’s the equivalent of a cup tie that went to extra time.

For a 20-year-old looking to develop and grow, that’s simply not enough game time.

Ramsay will be the sixth player to be recalled from a loan spell by Liverpool this season.

Clearly the management team is not happy with how their youth players are being afforded opportunities and with their development incredibly important to Liverpool, action has been taken to ensure the 2023/24 season doesn’t represent a period of stagnation for the club’s exciting young players.

Hopefully, Ramsay can find the game time he needs with another loan spell because if he stays at Liverpool for the rest of the season, there is very little chance of him playing often enough.
