Darwin Nunez’s ability to score from multiple positions and range for Liverpool is clear, but it’s disappointing to see him miss open goals.
The Uruguay international scored nine goals in the Premier League last season and has scored four goals this season, mostly from the bench. But he missed 20 big chances in 29 games in 2022/23 and missed big chances still haunt him, missing 10 this time.
His latest sending-off left Mohamed Salah frustrated and cost Liverpool a huge defeat against Luton Town on Sunday. Although Liverpool’s overall performance was below expectations, they had every chance to win the game.
Nunez had his fair share of chances and his finishing, including the crossbar in the first half, was less than ideal. Jurgen Klopp’s men created six fantastic goal scoring chances at Kenilworth Road, three of which fell to 24-year-old Nunes, who eventually converted.
Should Liverpool part ways with Darwin Nunes? There is no doubt that it has the ability to perform much better. If they can turn easy chances into difficult ones, Liverpool will be a force to be reckoned with. The Uruguayan had his moments to win the match.
Unfortunately for Liverpool fans, he tends to miss real money opportunities at key times going forward. This is an important issue and needs to be addressed.
