After the Dallas Mavericks traded Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers for Anthony Davis, it’s hard to write off any potential scenario as far-fetched, but the Golden State Warriors turning their 11th-place roster into a legitimate title contender seems like a long shot. However, with only three days before the Feb. 6 NBA trade deadline, the Warriors are active. As talks have slowed down surrounding Jimmy Butler, the Warriors are expected to pivot and be more aggressive than anyone has, ever.
The Warriors see a possibility of landing both Kevin Durant and LeBron James next to Stephen Curry. Durant won two titles with the Warriors in 2017 and 2018, but James and Curry have never been teammates in the NBA. However, the three are the faces of this generation of basketball, and all three are all-time greats.
“Sources say the most ambitious idea being tossed around among Golden State’s decision-makers: Is there any feasible pathway for the Warriors to pull off the dreamiest of outcomes and find a way to bring both James and Durant to The Bay?” reported insider Jake Fischer on Monday. The Warriors do have a long list of tradeable assets: Johnathan Kuminga, Andrew Wiggins, Gary Payton II, Kevon Looney, and four tradeable first-round picks is almost certainly enough to land either James or Durant, but both? Draymond Green, Trayce Jackson-Davis, and Brandin Podziemski would certainly have to be on the table.
