Cristiano Ronaldo appeared to square up to Jordan Henderson after the former Liverpool captain somehow avoided being sent off for his involvement in an ill-tempered cup clash between Al-Nassr and Al-Ettifaq.
Henderson, who ended his 12-year stint at Anfield to join Al-Ettifaq in a controversial summer move, was at the centre of a scuffle between both sides toward the end of normal time in Wednesday’s King Cup tie in Saudi Arabia. As the last-16 clash headed into the 90th minute, Al-Ettifaq midfielder Ali Hazazi tripped Nassr’s Otavio before Henderson quickly followed up on the former FC Porto man with three pushes.
Those actions from Henderson didn’t please Ronaldo, who seemed to gesture that Henderson should have been sent off – or booked at least – for his series of cynical fouls. Hazazi was red carded, though, for the trip.
Tempers continued to flare after the end of normal time as Ronaldo made his way over to Henderson to give the Al-Ettifaq captain a piece of his mind for his role in the incident. Henderson could be seen trying to calm down the five-time Ballon d’Or winner as both players made their way into the dressing room.
