Much has been made of the celebrations following Arsenal’s 3-1 win over title rivals Liverpool last Sunday, but Reds midfielder Curtis Jones has shared his thoughts on the matter.
Curtis Jones accused Arsenal of “stealing” Liverpool’s style of celebration after the Gunners beat Jurgen Klopp’s side 3-1 at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday. The manner in which Arsenal’s players and manager Mikel Arteta delivered their victory was questioned by many fans and pundits.
Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher objected to Gunners captain Martin Odegaard posing for a picture with Arsenal’s club photographer but urged the midfielder to “just go down the tunnel”.
Gary Neville suggested Arsenal’s celebrations had veered into immature territory, while Chris Sutton claimed “the Tunners patted themselves on the back by reacting enthusiastically to the win”. Now Jones has weighed in on the controversy, telling BBC Sport: “Listen. I would say we should end it politely. “It’s nice to have the holidays and all that, but we’ve always been a team over the years.
Our fans talked about it and he hit the fan and stuff like that. “That’s our job.” So if they want to steal from us, it shows that we are on the right track and there are people following us.
They might have a team, I won’t just mention a team. But yeah, they might have their moments and all that, but there’s still a lot of games to come. Instead, Arsenal captain Odegaard, who was at the center of the celebrations, also gave his opinion and dismissed any talk suggesting the Gunners had gone too far.
After the game, he expressed a different opinion about Jones.” If you can’t celebrate victory, when can you celebrate it?” We will be happy and humbled to win,” added the Norwegian.” I think anyone who loves football, anyone who understands football knows how important it is to win this game.
I will work hard and prepare for the next one, but of course I have to be happy when I win. “It was a big game. “It could have been 8 points and it would have seemed a lot harder, but we got there and the fans were amazing.”
