UNC Basketball Officially Adds Terrence Brown to 2026-27 Roster.
North Carolina Tar Heels men’s basketball officially welcomed transfer guard Terrence Brown into the program on Friday, adding one of the more experienced backcourt players available in the transfer portal this offseason.
Brown originally committed to UNC on April 21 after emerging as a major portal target for first-year head coach Michael Malone. Now that the addition is official, Brown is expected to immediately compete for — and likely secure — the starting point guard role heading into the 2026-27 season.
The veteran guard arrives in Chapel Hill after spending last season with Utah Utes men’s basketball, where he became one of the top offensive players in the Big 12 Conference. Brown averaged 19.9 points, 3.8 assists, 2.4 rebounds and 1.4 steals per game while shooting 45.3% from the field and 77.5% from the free-throw line. Although he connected on 32.7% of his three-point attempts, Brown showed the ability to create offense at all three levels and consistently carried Utah’s offensive workload.
Brown scored in double figures in nearly every outing last season and developed a reputation as a tough downhill guard capable of controlling tempo while also serving as a primary scorer. His ability to handle the ball, attack the paint and create late-clock offense was a major reason UNC prioritized him early in the portal cycle.
Before his breakout season at Utah, Brown also spent time at Fairleigh Dickinson Knights men’s basketball, where he steadily developed into a high-level college guard. Across his collegiate career, Brown has accumulated more than 1,500 career points, giving UNC an experienced presence in a roster that continues to undergo significant changes.
For Malone and the Tar Heels, Brown’s commitment represents another major step in reshaping the program’s backcourt identity. UNC lost several key contributors from last season’s team, making point guard one of the biggest priorities entering the offseason. Brown’s experience, scoring production and leadership qualities make him one of the expected centerpieces of the new-look roster.
His arrival also gives North Carolina additional maturity and stability at a position that often determines success in the ACC. Brown has already proven he can handle heavy minutes, create offense under pressure and compete against high-major competition, which should make his transition into the Tar Heels’ system smoother than many transfers.
With Brown officially on board, UNC’s projected lineup and rotation continue taking shape as the program prepares for Malone’s first season leading North Carolina Tar Heels men’s basketball.
In Big 12 play, the 6-foot-3 native of Minneapolis, MN, averaged 18.6 points, 2.7 rebounds, 3.7 assists, 2.9 turnovers, and .9 steals, while shooting 45.8% from the field, including 36.2% (17-for-47) from the perimeter.
Brown spent his first two years in college at Fairleigh Dickinson, where he was a first-team All-Northeast Conference member.

QB Transfer Taron Dickens Won’t Enroll at UNC.
Western Carolina transfer quarterback Taron Dickens will not enroll at from North Carolina, multiple sourcees close to the situation have confirmed to TarHeel247. It was first reported by Inside Carolina.
Dickens committed to UNC in late January and was expected to begin summer classes in June and OTAs with the team. A source close to the program told TarHeel247 that Dickens had been in Chapel Hill some in May, but wasn’t specific about anything else.
In 2025, completed 272-for-365 pass attempts for 3,508 yards, 38 TD, 2 INT, 184 first downs, 5 throwaways, 20 sacks, 4 times hit while throwing, 3 batted passes, 16 drops, 46 scrambles, and an NFL rating of 135.3.
In addition, he was credited with 97 runs for 321 yards and a TD with a long of 28 yards.
