Darwin Nunez scored a stunning goal as Liverpool beat Bournemouth 4-0 on Sunday afternoon. Nunez came alive after the break and headed home shortly after the restart to open the scoring for United and complete an excellent team effort.
He then played a part in both of Diogo Jota’s goals, unnerving the Bournemouth defenders and scoring the second from a Joe Gomez cross. The Uruguayan’s goal fired the Reds into a great performance and lifted them five points clear at the top of the table.
It’s one of his best performances of the season so far, and a season where Nunez’ scoring ability will once again be called into question. Does it often lose a seat? Yes probably. However, it is undeniable that his presence will lead to goals for the team. And the statistics confirm this. Nunez became the first Premier League player to score at least 10 goals and 10 assists in all competitions this season. His continued presence in the attacking phase of the game gives Liverpool an added edge going forward. And while he doesn’t deny everything thrown at him, he often makes up for his mistakes with other contributions throughout the game. He is an asset like no other and it is especially noticeable when he is not in the team. This element of chaos adds too much to the frontline, making it unpredictable for your opponents. There’s a reason why Jurgen Klopp rarely names him in his starting line-up.
