Darwin Núñez left laughing as Real Madrid ‘accelerates transfer plan’ amid Liverpool fear

After last night, many are questioning whether Liverpool even needs to sign another center-back. It was another impressive performance from Jarell Quansah, who was named Player of the Match in the Virgil van Dijk role.

But strength in depth is no bad thing, and the defense is probably still in need of the most attention in this regard, especially as Joël Matip is currently on a contract which expires at the end of the season. One name that has been mentioned regularly is Gonçalo Inácio.

According to Spanish newspaper AS (print edition via Paisley Gates), Real Madrid is also keen on signing the Sporting center-back. But it is aware of interest from both Liverpool and Manchester United, and may make its move in the January transfer window for fear of missing out.

The report claims Inácio is ‘destined to be dominant over the next decade’, making his release clause of $64m (£52m/€60m) a reasonable price to pay. There is a question mark over why Liverpool or any other apparently interested party did not make a move in the summer, before that clause was increased to its current value, but the Portugal international does look like a very good player.
