Darwin Nunez, Luis Diaz, Diogo Jota – Liverpool injury news and return

Latest Liverpool injury news as Jurgen Klopp will hope to have several of his key player return after the international break including Darwin Nunez, Diogo Jota, Luis Diaz, Cody Gakpo and Trent Alexander-Arnold

The Reds do not return to the pitch until March 31 against Brighton in the Premier League. From that point, Liverpool have 10 more fixtures to try and win the league title in a battle with Manchester City and Arsenal.

 

Jurgen Klopp’s side are also competing for the Europa League in the final weeks of the season. The Reds will face Atalanta in their quarter-final tie, where victory over two legs would set up a semi-final against either Benfica or Marseille.

However, Klopp will be hoping that Liverpool’s injury list starts to ease after the international break. The Reds have been forced to deal with several of their star players for large portions of the season, with concerns currently around 12 players.

Darwin Nunez

Darwin Nunez suffered a potential hamstring injury against Manchester United on March 17, as confirmed by Klopp post-match. The Liverpool boss was hopeful, though, that the injury was not serious.

Nunez was withdrawn from the Uruguay squad for the international break to remain on Merseyside and recover from the injury. It remains to be seen if he will be available to feature against Brighton on March 31.

Potential return date: Brighton (H) – March 31

Luis Diaz

Luis Diaz was feared to have suffered a groin injury in Liverpool’s defeat to Man United on Sunday. Diaz played 120 minutes at Old Trafford, with Klopp stating post-match that the forward had suffered a potential issue.

Liverpool were handed a boost this week, though, when Diaz took part in training for Colombia. The Reds will hope that Diaz returns to Merseyside available to feature against Brighton later this month.

Cody Gakpo

Cody Gakpo suffered a potential ankle injury during the defeat to Man United on Sunday. Klopp said post-match that the forward twisted his ankle after making an appearance from the bench.

 

However, Gakpo was spotted taking part in training for the Netherlands while on international duty on Tuesday. As a result, there is hope that the injury fears have been eased and that Gakpo will hopefully return to Merseyside available to feature against Brighton.

Trent Alexander-Arnold

Trent Alexander-Arnold continues to recover from a knee injury he first suffered back in January. The right-back made a brief return early last month but was withdrawn at half-time against Burnley on February 10 in his first start with the same injury.

 

As a result, Alexander-Arnold has been in recovery for the last few weeks but is gradually nearing a return. Klopp said last week that he expected the Liverpool vice-captain to return after the international break, but not until the second week at the earliest.

Potential return date: Manchester United (A) – April 7

 

Alisson Becker

Alisson Becker has been sidelined with a hamstring injury for the last few weeks. The Brazilian last played for Liverpool on February 4 in the 3-1 defeat to Arsenal.

 

No exact timeframe has been given for when Liverpool expect Alisson to return to the matchday squad. The club will hope that he will return sometime next month, with an update expected when Klopp speaks to the media again next week.

Diogo Jota

Diogo Jota has been sidelined with a knee injury since February 17 in the 4-1 win over Brentford. The Portuguese international has been recovering for the last few weeks and is gradually nearing a return.

 

Klopp confirmed that Jota is expected to return soon after the international. Brighton at home will be too soon, but there is hope that it could be in early April.

Curtis Jones

Curtis Jones also suffered an injury in the aforementioned win over Brentford and has been sidelined with an ankle issue. Jones has been in recovery ever since but is close to a return.

Klopp said last week that he expects Jones to be involved against Brighton next week. However, that will be dependent on how his recovery progresses over the next week or so.

Ibrahima Konate

Ibrahima Konate has been sidelined for the last four Liverpool matches with a muscle injury. The centre-back suffered the injury in the second half of the 5-1 win over Sparta Prague in the Europa League on March 7.

Konate has since taken part in training for the France national team while on international is likely to be back.
