Virgil van Dijk has responded after Liverpool star Joel Matip’s injury was confirmed. Joel Matip has been a great player for Liverpool for many years, but injuries have always plagued him.

It is not like that? The Cameroonian footballer has been playing at Anfield since the summer of 2016. He made 201 appearances in all competitions for Liverpool, but missed 104 of them due to injury.

That number is expected to rise significantly in the coming months, with Jurgen Klopp confirming Matip’s cruciate ligament tear in last night’s post-match press conference.

The defender is already 32 years old and the last six months of his contract are about to expire. Everyone expected him to leave after this season and it’s more likely than not.

ACL injuries usually take more than six months to recover from and it is now possible that Matip will be ruled out for the rest of this season. So we may never see him in a Liverpool shirt again. This is truly a shame.
