Virgil van Dijk reacts to the Liverpool news last night Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp confirmed Joel Matip’s serious injury last night and Virgil van Dijk commented on the news.
The Reds are having a good season so far. They are two points behind Premier League leaders Arsenal and four ahead of defending champions Manchester City. Liverpool are clearly in the title race, but they may now have to do without Matip.
Virgil van Dijk has responded after Liverpool star Joel Matip’s injury was confirmed. Joel Matip has been a great player for Liverpool for many years, but injuries have always plagued him.
It is not like that? The Cameroonian footballer has been playing at Anfield since the summer of 2016. He made 201 appearances in all competitions for Liverpool, but missed 104 of them due to injury.
That number is expected to rise significantly in the coming months, with Jurgen Klopp confirming Matip’s cruciate ligament tear in last night’s post-match press conference.
The Reds manager told Liverpool’s official website: “It’s a torn cruciate ligament. Unfortunately, this is what I expected from the first moment. Everything looked like this.
I am so sorry”.Commenting on the news, Van Dijk told Liverpoolfc.com: “Unfortunately, we recently lost Joel Matip and we are all devastated. Matip may have played his last game for Liverpool.
Joel Matip is loved by everyone in and around Liverpool, and rightfully so.The Cameroonian international has been a brilliant performer for them over the past seven and a half years and will be remembered for a long time. Matip’s recent injury was a huge blow.
The defender is already 32 years old and the last six months of his contract are about to expire. Everyone expected him to leave after this season and it’s more likely than not.
ACL injuries usually take more than six months to recover from and it is now possible that Matip will be ruled out for the rest of this season. So we may never see him in a Liverpool shirt again. This is truly a shame.
