Jones has established himself as a first-team regular at Anfield, having previously been on the periphery of things since breaking through from the academy. The midfielder made a total of 36 appearances in the 2023-24 season, scoring five goals in what was his most successful campaign to date.

Having previously struggled for a starting spot, he featured 24 times from the outset and earned himself a call-up into England’s pre-squad ahead of the European Championships.

Jota will head to the Euros aiming for glory with Portugal. He conducted a Q&A with Goal on a variety of topics and when asked who was the hardest training, the forward’s answer was Jones.

What’s more, Jota – who plundered 15 goals and recorded four assists last term – also believes that Alexis Mac Allister is the best player in the Premier League. The midfielder joined Liverpool from Brighton for £35 million last summer and enjoyed a fine maiden campaign. He played 46 matches in all competitions, scoring seven times and creating another seven.

Jota also named Jurgen Klopp as the best manager in Premier League history. The German left the Anfield hot seat last month after almost nine years in charge. He guided Liverpool to seven major trophies – including the Premier League and Champions League – and restored the club’s position among Europe’s elite.

Jota, signed from Wolves for £44 million in September 2020, said: “An icon of football, of course. It was just a dream to come to Liverpool and play under him, of course.”

Jota also picked Andy Robertson as the funniest member of the Liverpool dressing room – and Mac Allister as the best-looking.
