Liverpool remained firmly in the title race on the international circuit, beating Brentford on Sunday to claim another Premier League title.
Diogo Jota has warned Liverpool’s arch-rivals that more will come from the Reds if they continue to make new signings.
Jurgen Klopp’s side underwent a midfield overhaul last summer. Jordan Henderson, Fabinho, Naby Keita, James Milner and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain left Anfield, while Alexis McAllister, Dominic Szoboszlai, Wataru Endo and Ryan Gravenburch arrived.
Liverpool produced an early result to stay in the title race ahead of a high-profile game against Manchester City.
The Reds are a point behind the leaders after their win over Brentford and Jota’s comments could cause concern for both the title holders and fellow rivals Arsenal, who sit just below Liverpool on goal difference.
Jurgen Klopp makes ‘ridiculous’ comments about Liverpool’s Darwin Nunes – ‘Everyone can see’”It’s still early days,” Jota told Premier League Productions. “If we want to go all the way to the title game, we have to keep winning. It’s a long way.
“You never know. It’s still early and people are fighting for the club. That’s what we want to see. I hope we get there.”He told Match of the Day that adjustments are still being made.
“We’re still adapting to each other and it’s only the beginning of the season, but hopefully we can find the best way to play together and keep winning,” said the Portugal international.
Liverpool have lost just once in the Premier League all season. They dropped a point at Luton before losing to Toulouse last time out in Europe, but provided the response Jurgen Klopp was hoping for.
But despite the win, Klopp was disappointed by the TV schedule ahead of the big game after the international break. The Reds’ visit to the Etihad Stadium will be their first Premier League game since the 12.30pm kick-off on November 25.
“Well, nobody can tell me now, but how do you play a game like that at 12:30 on a Saturday?” Klopp said: “Honestly, the people making the decisions have no footballing sense, it’s impossible and if this is the time when people pay the most to watch a football match, no one has told us.
I don’t know if that’s true, really.“At one point we probably had two teams with about 30 overseas players. By the way, they all get back on the same plane.
They are all South American players.”They all fly back. They were put on planes from Uruguay, Brazil, Argentina and Colombia. We just have to make sure we’re ready for this game.”
