There is no shying away from the fact that Liverpool’s performance against Toulouse was not a pretty sight. Away from home Jürgen Klopp’s side was dominated against an opponent who shouldn’t have caused the Reds any problems.
It was not a surprise to see Klopp make three changes at half time with his team trailing by a goal, and not being very effective at all. One of the most notable changes was Wataru Endō being brought off the pitch. This was an opportunity for the Japanese international to make a strong impression, with Alexis Mac Allister’s looming suspension at the weekend. But he did not have a good game, and will have left the field disappointed. Lucky not to be given a red card for a challenge which was checked by VAR, Endō struggled playing the holding midfield role in this game. Often left isolated and alone, he won just two out of his eight duels. That for a player who prides himself as a duel master and won the most duels in the Bundesliga in two consecutive seasons is a poor showing.
