Liverpool are working behind the scenes to prepare their structure for next season and fans will be excited after Fabrizio Romano’s latest online post.
Jurgen Klopp will leave the club after the end of the season, and it will be a huge task for any new manager to fill the void. However, a proper system and structure can make a massive difference.
The task of a manager becomes a lot easier if he has a knowledgeable sporting director in place and someone who will oversee the day-to-day running of the club.
That’s why Liverpool are desperate to appoint the right people and get the structure in place before bringing in a new manager.
According to Romano, Liverpool are close to reaching an agreement with Michael Edwards – the man who helped the club reach new heights.
Edwards will not be a mere transfer guru but will oversee Liverpool’s football operations, although he was initially reluctant to come back.
Romano says the final deals have been discussed, and his appointment is imminent. Richard Hughes is also ‘ready to accept’ an offer from the Reds and join Edwards in a new-look Liverpool set-up.
The role of Michael Edwards and Richard Hughes
Edwards is looking for more power at the club, which means he will cover far broader aspects.
He will be less involved in transfer dealings but will be in charge of the club’s football operations.
If he joins the Reds, Hughes is expected to follow him. The 51-year-old will fill the vacant sporting director role. He was the technical director at Bournemouth and left the role earlier this week.
Hughes will lead transfer dealings and negotiations, and Edwards rates him highly.
If Liverpool can secure a deal for both of them, they will push hard to bring Xabi Alonso to the club.
