Former Liverpool defender Jose Enrique hopes his former club Fulham will step up their interest in Joao Palhinha in the January transfer window. Manchester United have been revealed as potential suitors for the Portugal international, along with a host of other clubs, and in an interview with Grosvenor Sport, Enrique said the midfielder would be a great addition to Jurgen Klopp’s side.
“Joao Palhinha has been linked with Liverpool, Manchester United and Tottenham. First of all, I don’t think you can place Tottenham in that conversation in terms of pulling power next to Liverpool and United. They are not the same.
Chelsea’s Legend“Palhinha thinks he is a great player and will love him in Liverpool. I think he’s a player in Liverpool’s midfield. “However, Enrique does not expect Palhinha to use it at a reasonable price next month, and Liverpool may have to stop the transfer record to set a transfer record. “If they try to sign him in January, I think that Fulham will ask for rewards that no one will pay. I think summer is a different story and something could happen to him. “Fulham will probably ask over £100m for him in January and nobody will pay, but they will bring him back in the summer.”Palhinha’s asking price has increased since the summer.
The 28-year-old was due to join Bayern for £60m in September, but the Bundesliga champions failed to complete the deal before transfer deadline day. Reliable sources have since claimed that Fulham could now demand between £70m and £80m for Palhinha, which is not much less than Enrique has claimed.
Liverpool compete for playersIn addition to the players mentioned by Enrique, United and Tottenham, journalist Fabrizio Romano reported that Arsenal are also interested in signing Palhinha. Other reports suggest Manchester City will make a bid for the Portuguese star next month, so Liverpool will be keen to secure his services.
