Two Chelsea players have been named as absentees from this weekend’s English Premier League matchup versus Arsenal.
Mauricio Pochettino’s team will play Mikel Arteta’s Gunners at Stamford Bridge on Saturday, according to Naija News.
Carney Chukwuemeka and Trevoh Chalobah, however, will not be playing this weekend due to setbacks in their injury recovery, the Blues stated in an official statement on Thursday.
Both midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka and defense player Trevoh Chalobah have recently encountered obstacles in their attempts to recover from injuries they acquired earlier in the season.
According to an official club statement, “the duo will now go under further review before continuing their rehabilitation at Cobham with the club’s medical staff.”
As far as Naija News is aware, Chukwuemeka hasn’t played for the Blues since being hurt against West Ham. Chalobah is presently rehabilitating from a thigh injury and hasn’t appeared in any games for the Blues this season.
In January, Trevoh Chalobah will depart from Chelsea.
Chalobah, meantime, is anticipated to go on mutual consent from the Premier League team headquartered in West London in January, according to Naija News.
On October 15, Italian transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano revealed that Trevoh Chalobah and Chelsea are anticipated to separate ways.
The 24-year-old English center back must choose this way in order to continue his quest for his Three Lions of England debut and play more frequently starting next year.
Trevoh Chalobah came via Chelsea’s junior ranks. The English defender spent time on loan in French Ligue 1 with Ipswich, Huddersfield, and FC Lorient while still a Chelsea junior player.
Under the guidance of coach Thomas Tuchel, he was promoted to Chelsea’s senior team on July 1, 2021, and he quickly established himself in the starting lineup.
But he has fallen out of the starting lineup, particularly under coach Mauricio Pochettino, to the point that he hasn’t played this season.
He has reportedly been nursing thigh issues since the previous season, which is the reason he has been sidelined for so long.
Bayern Munich attempted several times to sign him during the most recent summer transfer window despite his fitness concerns, but the transfer negotiations broke down in August 2023.
Trevoh Chalobah may retire from football in January 2024, but during his 63 games across all competitions, he has only managed four assists and zero goals for Chelsea. This report comes from Fabrizio Romano.
