Liverpool have played twice in the EA FC Ultimate Team, with Man City and Norwegian striker Erling Haaland selected.
Both choices for the striker are perfectly reasonable. Manchester City striker Erling Haaland has shown his respect for two Liverpool players by adding them to the Ultimate Team in the popular football game EA FC 24, formerly known as FIFA.
One of the selected players is current Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk. Haaland’s Ultimate Team consists of world-class players from various eras.
Interestingly, Haaland seems to share a similar passion for EA FC with Liverpool’s Diogo Jota, who spends most of his free time competing with other players online. Among the players selected in Haaland’s squad is former Red Bull Salzburg teammate Dominik Szoboszlai.
Other notable names attending the trial included football legends Ronaldo Nazario, Pele and Wayne Rooney. Van Dijk’s selection as a centre-back in the Netherlands squad comes as no surprise given how highly the Manchester City striker rates him.
Haaland has previously expressed his admiration for Van Dijk in several media interviews, praising the 2019 Champions League winner’s power and timing. After Red Bull played Van Dijk in the 2019/20 Champions League group stage in Salzburg, ESPN quoted Haaland as saying: “You know how big he is, how strong he is, how fast his timing is.
“I don’t think I’ve ever won a fight against that guy because he’s a physical monster.”Haaland later met Van Dijk in the Premier League and spoke highly of him. When asked to name the most difficult defender in his debut season in England, he answered without hesitation.
“We have a lot of strong defenders. “Van Dijk at Liverpool is very good,” the 23-year-old told Optus Sport. “I met him a few times with the national team and he was a very nice guy even when I was playing in Salzburg. “That’s what I’m thinking about right now.”
According to Liverpool.com: It’s no surprise that Van Dijk is in his squad. The Dutchman is the outstanding central defender of his generation. Szoboslai is yet to reach the top of his game as a Liverpool player, but he has impressed.
Szoboslai and Haaland played together at Red Bull Salzburg and both played in the famous 4-3 Champions League draw at Anfield.
