Liverpool’s Fábio Carvalho has impressed for Hull City this season. He revealed that he strives to be the best in the world, and looks up to Cristiano Ronaldo.
Liverpool’s Fábio Carvalho has revealed that Cristiano Ronaldo is who he looks up to, with an aim of becoming one of the best players in the world. The 21-year-old praised the Portugal star’s work ethic and drew similarities to their backgrounds as a driver for determination.
During an interview with Portuguese newspaper A Bola, asked about which player inspires him, he said: “There’s only one, isn’t there? [laughter] Cristiano Ronaldo! The way he works is incredible.
“I know those who played with him at Manchester United and, even at his age, he continues to work the same way and take care of himself. Everyone tells me he’s a madman who lives and breathes football. He always wants to be the best, that’s why he reached the level he did.”
Carvalho, who also discussed his relationship with Jürgen Klopp during the chat, explained how he gets strength from wanting to give his parents a better life.
“It gives me motivation every day. I saw my mother and father waking up early every day to go to work. Then they leave one job for another so they can earn a little more. These things give me strength.
“When I’m tired, or I don’t feel like training so much, I think about those moments and how I need to give my parents a better life.”
The $9m (£7m/€8.2m) Liverpool star, who replicated a Philippe Coutinho moment while on loan at Hull City, has been in impressive form of late, with three goals in his last five league matches. And Carvalho has big ambitions for the rest of his career.
“Yes, I think about being the best in the world every day [laughs]. That’s what I work towards. To be the best, you have to learn from the best and work towards it every day. That’s what I’m always focussed on.”
You can’t really go wrong if looking to emulate a player as good as Cristiano Ronaldo. It’s nice to hear Carvalho open up about his background and how he works hard when thinking about his parents who worked multiple jobs.
As rumors continue surrounding the potential arrival of Xabi Alonso as the next manager, whoever is next in the dugout could certainly benefit from Carvalho, who showed plenty of glimpses during his first season at the club.
