Fabrizio Romano paid tribute to Liverpool star Mohamed Salah after he scored his 200th goal for the club against Crystal Palace yesterday.
Salah has been a world-class performer for Liverpool since joining from Roma in the summer of 2017 and his impressive form in front of goal this season has helped injury-hit Jurgen Klopp return to serious competition for the title.
He dropped out of the top 4 last season. In an exclusive interview with CaughtOffside in the Daily Briefing column, Romano explained how highly he rates Salah.
He said he was not surprised the Egypt international had such an impressive career at Anfield after seeing his potential in Italy at Fiorentina and Roma.
Despite Salah’s struggles as a youngster at Chelsea, Romano said he always considered Salah a great talent after watching him in Serie A. Romano also said that there is currently no update on Salah’s new contract as he recently signed a new contract with LFC.
“I wanted to pay tribute to Mohamed Salah after he scored his 200th goal for Liverpool. He is a special player and to score so many goals for a top club is something that cannot be underestimated,”
Romano said. “We’re often asked if we’ll ever see Salah again after seeing him in Italy during his spells at Fiorentina and Roma. As fans here know, he had a poor spell at Chelsea in his youth, but he performed brilliantly in Serie A.
He initially played for Fiorentina and Roma, then permanently loaned to the latter club. I’m not surprised he’s done so well for Liverpool.
“Regarding his contract, he recently signed a new contract. Everything is fine between Salah and Liverpool. Other than that, I don’t want to make any predictions.”
