Manchester United will face Liverpool in the FA Cup quarter-finals if both come through their fifth round ties, while holders Manchester City will take on Newcastle United.
The old rivals will face off at Old Trafford on the weekend of March 16 should United beat Nottingham Forest on Wednesday night and Liverpool get the better of Championship side Southampton at Anfield.
The meeting between City and Newcastle at the Etihad Stadium is guaranteed tie after both won their last-16 matches on Tuesday evening. Newcastle got the better of City 1-0 in the Carabao Cup at St James’ Park earlier this season.
The draw in full is: Wolves or Brighton vs Coventry, Nottingham Forest or Manchester United vs Liverpool or Southampton, Chelsea or Leeds vs Leicester, Man City vs Newcastle
Pep Guardiola’s side look in ominous form and are a strong bet to successfully defend their trophy this season following a 6-2 win at Luton on Tuesday in which Erling Haaland scored five goals. Meanwhile Newcastle prevailed on penalties against Blackburn, Leicester caused a minor shock beating Premier League Bournemouth 1-0 after extra-time and Coventry thrashed minnows Maidstone United 5-0 on Monday.
The quarter-final line-up will be complete after the matches between Chelsea and Leeds at Stamford Bridge, Nottingham Forest’s clash with Manchester United at the City Ground, Wolves against Brighton elsewhere in the Midlands at Molineux and Carabao Cup winners Liverpool’s home meeting with Southampton.
