Transfer news expert Fabrizio Romano discusses the latest links between Liverpool and Manchester City midfielder Calvin Phillips in his exclusive Daily Briefing column.
The England international is expected to leave the Etihad Stadium soon as he doesn’t get much game time at the moment for Manchester City, but it remains to be seen where he will go next. Phillips is an interesting option for Liverpool after losing a number of midfielders last summer, with Jordan Henderson and Fabinho moving to Saudi Arabia and James Milner, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita leaving as free agents.
Alexis McAllister, Dominic Soboslay, Ryan Gravenbirch and Wataru Endo eventually joined the Reds, but you can imagine there could be a spot for someone like Phillips as well.
So this can only be speculation at this point.”As mentioned earlier, Calvin Phillips looks set to leave Manchester City in January, but despite what has been reported elsewhere, we don’t currently know what talks will take place with Liverpool,” explained Romano. “It’s very quiet around Liverpool at the moment.
Transfer plans for January are not decided in October. “It will happen by the end of this year,” he said.
