In recent seasons, Man City and Liverpool have engaged in some thrilling encounters, and this Sunday’s clash looks set to be a match for the ages. So in preparation for the fixture, here are five unforgettable Premier League matches between the two sides.

January 2019: Man City 2-1 Liverpool

In the 2018-19 season, City and Liverpool were locked in a fierce title race where both teams set new standards. After an exciting run-in, it was Guardiola’s team who eventually won by just a single point highlighting the significance of their victory over the Reds in January.

October 2021: Liverpool 2 – 2 Man City

This early-season match lived up to the hype that this fixture has come to attract under the era-defining leaderships of Klopp at Liverpool and Guardiola at City. All the main action happened in the second half as Sadio Mane put Liverpool ahead before Phil Foden equalised with a great strike.

January 2018: Liverpool 4- 3 Man City

The second half of the 2017-18 season was when Liverpool really started to shine under Klopp. They showed they could potentially compete with City.

Although they didn’t stop City’s title run at Anfield, they did give them a tough time by handing them their first loss of the season. Sane equalised after Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s early goal, but three goals in nine minutes from Firmino, Mane and Salah secured the win for Liverpool despite late goals from Bernardo Silva and Ilkay Gundogan.

 

November 2019: Liverpool 3-1 Man City

Liverpool finally won the Premier League title after a long wait. It was clear that they had the momentum as they narrowly beat City on a tense afternoon at Anfield.

 

Fabinho scored an early goal for the hosts while City were upset about a penalty not given at the other end just seconds before. Salah added to City’s woes by scoring a second goal soon after and Mane got a third. However, Silva kept City in the game and Guardiola was angry when another penalty appeal was turned down.
