During the 2024-25 season with the Blue Devils, Flagg played in 37 games. He averaged 19.2 points per game to go along with 7.5 rebounds, 4.2 assists, 1.4 blocks, and 1.4 steals, while shooting 48.1 percent from the floor and 38.5 percent from three-point range. Flagg did not disappoint.
Unfortunately, Duke came up short of its ultimate goal of winning a National Championship. Despite that fact, Flagg’s lone season with the Blue Devils was a smashing success.
Following his first and final year with Duke, Flagg was drafted No. 1 overall by the Dallas Mavericks in the 2025 NBA Draft. His rookie season continued to show the overwhelming talent the young forward possesses. As an NBA rookie with the Mavericks, Flagg averaged 21 points, 6.7 rebounds, 4.5 assists, 1.2 steals, and 0.9 blocks. He played in 70 games and shot 46.8 percent from the floor and 29.5 percent from deep.
Ahead of the 2026-27 NBA season, HoopsHype has released their small forward rankings. Flagg came in at No. 2 on the list, trailing just Boston Celtics star and fellow Duke alum Jayson Tatum.
“One of the brightest young American stars the NBA has seen in some time, Dallas Mavericks swingman Cooper Flagg lived up to the hype as a rookie, becoming the second teenager in league history to put up a 21/6/4 stat line, joining Doncic on the list,” they wrote.
“If we broaden the horizon and check the same statistical filters for rookies rather than just teenagers, Flagg is just the fourth first-year player in the three-point era to post a 21/6/4 stat line, with Doncic, Michael Jordan and Larry Bird joining him on the list.”
Already, Flagg has positioned himself as one of the NBA’s top rising superstars.
Duke fans would have loved to keep Flagg in town for one more season. But, that was never going to be the case and Blue Devils faithful continue rooting him on hard at the NBA level. It will be interesting to see what Flagg has in store for year two in the NBA. His rookie season was just the appetizer.
