Gary Lineker and Jamie Carragher agree as Jürgen Klopp can unleash improved Liverpool midfielder

The international break is slowly coming to an end next weekend and Liverpool will be back in action. In less than a week now, its big match coming up against Manchester City will be underway. Jürgen Klopp’s men will have wanted to face City under different circumstances with an early Saturday kick-off far from ideal.

But the Liverpool boss can take solace from the fact that his Liverpool players have all excelled while on international duty and will be returning mostly in high spirits. From Dominik Szoboszlai winning games single-handedly for Hungary to Darwin Núñez scoring important goals for Uruguay and Luis Díaz for Colombia, it has been a good few days for the Reds.

And it’s not just the attackers. The defenders have also been in good form, Virgil van Dijk’s interventions for the Netherlands were crucial to secure qualification to Euro 2024 for his country.

Some of Klopp’s younger players have been doing well at youth international level as well, with Harvey Elliott among those to impress. The Liverpool boss will hope all that good form will be transferred back to club level as well starting with Manchester City next weekend. Elliott’s form is really encouraging, especially at a time when he isn’t getting as many minutes in the Liverpool first team as he would like. But what is even more encouraging is the signs of development that have been apparent in his game including a new trait that he is starting to develop.
