Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville says Jurgen Klopp’s presence “could” help Liverpool win the title Premier League title this season.
The German has announced that he will be leaving Anfield this summer and Neville says the desire to give the Reds boss a grand send-off may inspire the team to win multiple trophies:
“If they didn’t have Klopp as a manager, I would say that [winning the Carabao Cup] might be as good as it gets. But with it being his last few months, and the energy and the spirit, you just know what’s going to happen there. I still don’t think they’ll win the league. But they could.”
Klopp’s team still have the chance to do an unlikely quadruple this campaign. They face Southampton in the FA Cup fifth round on Wednesday night, before continuing their quest for the league title against Nottingham Forest this weekend.
Next month, Liverpool will also take on Czech side Sparta Prague over two legs in the last 16 of the Europa League.
Liverpool looked inspired in the Carabao Cup final
Considering the number of injuries that the club have picked up in recent weeks, it was quite remarkable how they managed to go toe-to-toe with Chelsea in the final at Wembley on Sunday.
As Neville says, Klopp is certainly helping to inspire some of these players to greater heights than they even thought possible. If the Merseysiders are to finish top of the league, though, they will need to have their big guns back in action as soon as possible.
What do the bookmakers say?
The Reds remain second favourites at the bookies behind Manchester City, but the odds are beginning to narrow as things tighten up at the top of the table.
While City remain odds-on for their sixth title in seven years, Klopp’s side are currently 2/1 and even 15/8 with some bookmakers.
Arsenal are very much still in contention too, with their odds having now shortened to 3/1. It is very much a three-horse race at the moment.
