Gary Neville makes ABSURD comparison between Liverpool and Man Utd midfielders

Gary Neville has once again made himself a target for ridicule with his latest comparisons between Liverpool and Manchester United’s midfielders.

The Red Devils have endured a disastrous season and are currently sat eighth in the table – a staggering 24 points behind Liverpool in third.

Erik ten Hag’s side could still win the FA Cup this term – although that looks unlikely up against Manchester City in the final – but they crashed out of the Champions League at the group stage earlier this term and were humiliated by Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup.

Neville, who played for Man Utd for 19 years, had already made a fool of himself at the beginning of the season, claiming that Man Utd’s midfield was far superior to Liverpool’s midfield.

Those words have come back to bite him big time given Man Utd’s woeful performances – especially in midfield – this season, but Neville has refused to admit defeat following another wild claim.

GARY NEVILLE’S ABSURD CLAIM
Speaking on the most recent Stick to Football podcast, Neville spoke about the comments he made at the start of the season when comparing Liverpool and Man Utd’s midfield.

“Liverpool didn’t have any midfield at the start of the season,” said the former Valencia coach. “They had Curtis Jones and Harvey Elliott at the club. They signed [Wataru] Endo – would you have swapped Endo for Casemiro and [Sofyan] Amrabat at the start of the season?

“This is a serious conversation about players at Manchester United, and what happens to them.

“You’d have taken [Mason] Mount over [Dominik] Szoboszlai, you’d have taken Casemiro or Amrabat over Endo. You’d have taken [Bruno] Fernandes over [Alexis] Mac Allister.

“You’d have probably taken Kobbie Mainoo over Elliott, you might have taken [Scott] McTominay over Curtis Jones.”

Alexis Mac Allister for Liverpool vs Sheffield United.
While unsurprising, the majority of Neville’s claims are simply laughable.

Other than suggesting that Casemiro was a more promising midfield addition than Endo – the latter having gone on to outshine the Brazilian this season despite perceptions at the start of the campaign – Neville’s opinions will have Liverpool supporters in stitches.

Mason Mount and Dominik Szoboszlai were similar calibre signings, albeit Premier League watchers would have known far more about the former Chelsea man, while few would have chosen Scott McTominay over Curtis Jones – especially given how the Liverpool man finished last season.

Kobbie Mainoo, who had barely kicked a ball for Man Utd before this term, over Harvey Elliott is another outlandish shout, while not many football fans would want a character like Bruno Fernandes around their club, let alone in place of World Cup winner Alexis Mac Allister.

There’s having faith in your club’s players and then there’s blind and biased loyalty. Sorry, Gary.
