In fact, it is more than that. They also competed in the Bundesliga. Their styles are similar in some ways in that they are possession based and favor pressing football.

Both were very successful and will go down as true legends of English football. But there are differences. Guardiola has built his managerial career on the pursuit of perfection.

And at “City” Guardiola brought the club of enormous wealth to extraordinary heights. They have had far more success under him than any other manager and he can pick and choose the perfect players to fit his perfect system at will. Klopp is different.

He took underperforming teams from Mainz and Borussia Dortmund and turned them into the best teams in history.

According to Gary Neville, this is where Klopp differs from Guardiola. On the Daily Ketchup podcast, Neville was asked who is the best in the world and replied:”I would say Jurgen Klopp.

He works with a much smaller budget than Pep Guardiola. Pep Guardiola is a genius and will be remembered forever. But Jurgen Klopp is the perfect manager for me.

“If I had to tell you which manager I would bring to Manchester United tomorrow, it would be Jurgen Klopp.”This is actually a big gap. Guardiola always had the ideal situation in front of him and he managed it perfectly.

Klopp didn’t have to start from scratch, but the base he worked from was much smaller.
