As the dust settles on Liverpool’s disappointing 1-1 draw at Luton Town, focus will soon shift to the trip to France for the Europa League clash with Toulouse. A victory for the Reds will secure progress to the knockout phase and may even seal top spot in Group E depending on the result in the other match.
There is much for Jürgen Klopp to ponder in terms of his line up for the game. Having battled to win in a hurricane at Bournemouth last Wednesday, his side looked tired for the match at Kenilworth Road. As Alexis Mac Allister is suspended for the next league game, against Brentford on Sunday, he should feature against Toulouse. Aside from the Argentine, though, Klopp must balance the demands of Premier League and Europa League very carefully this week to keep both campaigns on track.
And before we know it, the transfer window will be open once more, with certain players on the move and others looking for improved contracts at their existing clubs. With that in mind, Liverpool.com takes a scan around the other big sides in the Premier League and around Europe to take a look at the news going on at the other clubs.
Steven Gerrard sounds transfer warning “To assure our fans, we are going to scour Europe for more options,” he said (via Goal). “But we’ll also, more importantly, need to scour locally to improve this squad to be more competitive.”
Liverpool.com says: Gerrard’s statement may have Liverpool supporters looking anxiously in the direction of Mohamed Salah, even if the Al Ettifaq boss didn’t specify any player by name. The Egyptian is.
But that would be true if Gerrard hadn’t said anything either, of course. Salah looks to be enjoying playing for Liverpool 2.0 and it’ll take a lot more than this story to entice him to Saudi Arabia.
The reopening of the transfer window will inevitably ensure focus falls upon the Saudi Pro League and the spending power of the clubs within it. Al Ettifaq manager (and Liverpool legend) Steven Gerrard has recently been speaking about how his side needs to improve.
