The latest round of top-flight fixtures kicks off today with an early afternoon kick-off between the league champions and Liverpool following the most recent international break.
In the build-up to this big showdown at the Etihad Stadium, one pundit and former Liverpool player has shared his thoughts on this latest clash between the two northern teams. Speaking in a recent edition of The Sky Sports Football Podcast, Carragher had this to say about how he feels today’s match will go.
He said: “It feels like a really big game. I still think Manchester City have got the edge on Liverpool right now because I think Liverpool are still building to almost get back to where they were but I tell you what if Liverpool can get a result at Manchester City and go and win that game, it’d certainly blow the title wide open.
“I’d have to favour Man City, I think they might just edge it. I’m hoping there will be goals in it. I think Liverpool can cause real problems. I’m not sure I can see Liverpool winning there, to be honest, but I think there could easily be a draw there.” As things stand, the Citizens sit at the top of the Premier League table with 28 points from their opening 12 games of the campaign, with Jurgen Klopp’s side just one point behind them.
Looking back to last season’s meeting between City and Liverpool at the Etihad, Pep Guardiola’s side secured a convincing 4-1 victory over the Reds and did so without top striker, Erling Haaland, in the team.
With City having won more league games than the Merseyside club this season and scoring five more goals than them, this, and the fact that they have the home advantage on this occasion, could be why Carragher thinks the treble winners currently have the edge over the Reds for this clash. Having dropped two points in their previous league game against Chelsea prior to the international break, Guardiola will undoubtedly be hoping to see his side do what they did at the Etihad last season and pick up all three points against Liverpool to take them a step closer to regaining the league title.
Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher has shared his prediction for this afternoon’s Premier League clash between Manchester City and Liverpool.
