As a boyhood Reds fan who had been raised on Anfield tales by his father, Scott, Elliott had watched on as a supporter just a few weeks earlier with his family as Jurgen Klopp’s side won the Champions League in Madrid against Tottenham Hotspur on June 1.
By the end of July he was a Liverpool player in possession of his first professional contract, signed after the club had agreed a compensation package with Fulham of around £4.5m, which was a record fee for a 16-year-old. It was a whirlwind period Elliott remembers well.
Harvey Elliott was just weeks removed from making Premier League history when he took a phone call that changed his life over four years ago.
