Harvey Elliott reveals how Jurgen Klopp kept promise with private Liverpool title ceremony

Harvey Elliott was just weeks removed from making Premier League history when he took a phone call that changed his life over four years ago.

Having become the youngest player to appear in the current guise of English football’s top flight at the time, when he was introduced as a Fulham substitute at just 16 years and 30 days in May 2019, Elliott was on holiday when he was first made aware of Liverpool’s interest.

As a boyhood Reds fan who had been raised on Anfield tales by his father, Scott, Elliott had watched on as a supporter just a few weeks earlier with his family as Jurgen Klopp’s side won the Champions League in Madrid against Tottenham Hotspur on June 1.

By the end of July he was a Liverpool player in possession of his first professional contract, signed after the club had agreed a compensation package with Fulham of around £4.5m, which was a record fee for a 16-year-old. It was a whirlwind period Elliott remembers well.
