‘He creates chances’… John Barnes says Liverpool’s 24-year-old can do what Erling Haaland can’t


Darwin Nunes has been compared to Erling Haaland since joining Liverpool. These two forwards were two of last summer’s biggest signings and with Liverpool and Manchester City being English football’s biggest rivals for many years, comparisons were inevitable.

Unfortunately, Nunes has not lived up to the standards set by Haaland over the past 12 months, but the Uruguayan has shown signs of improvement this season. John Barnes spoke about Núñez and his achievements on YouTube channel This is Anfield, saying the 24-year-old is a versatile man and can do things creatively that Erling Holland can’t.

Núñez can do what Haaland cannot Barnes shared his assessment of the striker. “He creates chances. If Darwin Nunes was a finisher like Robbie Fowler, he would be worth £150m and score 50 goals a year. He does what Erling Haaland can’t do and Erling Haaland can’t do. You can. He scores goals, works hard for the team and gets behind them. There is not another center forward in sight. What he has, what he gives us, he’s a good guy and he could never be Robbie Fowler,” Barnes said

final product Núñez is in some ways as good as Haaland, but this latest offering is not the same as Uruguay. Nunes is as quick, strong and hard-working as Haaland, but his composure and ability to put the ball into the net in the final third are different from the Norwegian. As Barnes said, Nunes would be worth £150m if he was clinical, but unfortunately he lacks the ability to find the net on a regular basis.
