With Diogo Jota ruled out through injury, the Liverpool manager said the rest of the squad will share the playing time.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has told his forwards to share the workload as they prepare for the grueling nine games in 29 days.
Liverpool play Fulham in the Premier League on Sunday, while Sheffield United and Crystal Palace travel to Union St Gilroy in their final Europa League group games.
Klopp’s men face Manchester United, West Ham United, Arsenal and Burnley in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup, all of whom host Newcastle United on New Year’s Day.
Klopp said Liverpool’s remaining forwards will share the playing time if Diogo Jota is not injured. “This is the most intense period in world football for every team,” Klopp told reporters on Friday. “So everybody plays.
This won’t help you because you don’t have Diogo yet and you’ll have to split that time with another player. “It should always be 60, 70, top speed, not 90.”
Injuries to other key players, including goalkeeper Alisson and left-back Andy Robertson, have left Klopp unsure whether he will be able to rotate his squad regularly. “It depends on the players we have,” he said.
“We’ll look at it and go from there with what we get.”Cody Gakpo returned to the starting line-up on Thursday and scored twice in a 4-0 Europa League win over Austrian side LASK, with Dutchman Darwin Nunes taking over as centre-forward.
“Darwin is up front and he’s very important for us and the fact that he didn’t play against LASK has nothing to do with anything else,” Klopp said. “Cody has scored two goals now.
It’s fantastic. Does this mean he will lose his next five games in a row?
“Other guys are going to score, but that’s not what it’s about and Cody doesn’t expect that. They have to score, it’s their job, that’s what they want, but now they have sleepless nights and don’t know where to start.
