Stan Collymore has given his verdict on Liverpool midfielder Thiago Alcantara.
The former Liverpool striker thinks that Thiago will never play for Jurgen Klopp’s side again.
So, what has Stan Collymore said about Liverpool midfielder Thiago Alcantara? Let’s take a look.
Thiago Alcantara tipped to leave Liverpool in 2024 summer
Well, Stan Collymore has been speaking about Thiago Alcantara. The former Liverpool striker has not been impressed by how Thiago has done at Anfield so far.
The pundit has noted that Thiago is out of contract at the end of the season. Collymore does not think that Liverpool will hand the 32-year-old a new contract.
Collymore has also noted that Thiago has suffered another injury and is unlikely to play for Liverpool again this season.
The Spanish midfielder has been on the books of Liverpool since 2020 when he joined from Bayern Munich. According to BBC Sport, the Reds paid £20 million in transfer fees for Thiago.
Collymore told CaughtOffSide: “Now Thiago is out injured with what is reportedly a serious hamstring injury, it looks like he may never play for Liverpool again. That would be a sad ending for him, the club and the fans, but I think his time at Anfield has been exaggerated slightly.
“In my opinion, he’s been average for them since he joined from Bayern Munich in 2020. I think he’s probably been a great addition to the dressing room with his experience, professionalism and leadership qualities, but just talking about his on-field contributions, I don’t think he’s really lived up to expectations.
“His contract expires at the end of the season and I think it’s a given that it won’t be extended. He’s 32 years old and with injuries clearly catching him up, I wouldn’t be surprised if we see him drift off to either the MLS or Saudi’s Pro League in the summer.
“I certainly don’t think any top European club are going to make him an offer — I think this phase of his career is probably over with now.”
My View: Thiago a disappointment at Liverpool
In my opinion, Thiago has failed to make an impact at Liverpool. Yes, he is a very good and classy midfielder, but we did not see that at Anfield.
Thiago’s best years were at Bayern Munich. At Liverpool, the Spanish midfielder suffered with injuries and could not always get a run in the team.
It is not easy for players to get into a rhythm if they do not get a run of games. Thiago, who was linked with moves away in the January transfer window, has made 68 appearances in the Premier League so far in his career. The midfielder has scored two goals and given four assists in those games.
