Liverpool would be among the favorites to win the Premier League this season if they sign Joao Palhinha from Fulham, according to Owen Hargreaves.
Jurgen Klopp’s side are short of midfielders and if they can secure Palhinha’s signature, they will become real contenders for top spot alongside Manchester City, Arsenal and Tottenham, according to the pundit.“One thing they lack is a defensive midfielder. I think Palhinha could win the league if he plays for Liverpool.
He is a very good player.”Alexis McAllister has taken over at No.6 since the start of the campaign and while he’s shown he can fill the role, he’s not a perfect fit, so Hargreaves is right to call for a new No.6.
Expert in that position Palhinha is unlikely to be on Liverpool’s radar
The Reds are clearly looking for a defensive midfielder following their £110million bid for Moises Caicedo, but there are a number of reasons why Palhinha is not a target.
Firstly, he is 28 years old and many believe that Liverpool will not pay a significant fee for a player with no resale value.
Secondly, Bayern Munich came very close to signing Palhinha from Munich for £55m this summer and the Bundesliga champions are expected to revisit their offer for the Portugal international when the transfer window closes will reopen in January.
Liverpool are considering options in South AmericaThe Merseyside club appear keen to sign Andre from Fluminense.
Manchester United were interested in the 22-year-old this summer, but his club were unwilling to sell at the time. The situation is expected to change in January after Fluminense’s season ends.
