FRIENDLY INTERNATIONALLY
In an international friendly match played in Abidjan yesterday night, hosts of AFCON 2023 and Nigeria’s Group A rivals, Côte d’Ivoire, demonstrated their willingness to advance far in the competition by holding 2022 World Cup semifinalists Morocco to a 1-1 draw.
In the first half’s three minutes of added time, Côte d’Ivoire took the lead thanks to a goal from Sebastien Haller.
But Ayoub El Kaabi of Morocco tied the score with nine minutes remaining in the match.
On Tuesday, October 17, Côte d’Ivoire will play another international friendly match, this time against South Africa.
In the AFCON the following year, the Ivorians were put into Group A alongside the Super Eagles of Nigeria, Equatorial Guinea, and Guinea-Bissau.
While in the FIFA World Cup qualifications for 2026, South Africa will play the Super Eagles.
Saudi Arabia forced the Eagles to a 2-2 draw in Portugal on Friday.
