How Harvey Elliott reacted to Arsenal result before winner sent Liverpool top of the table

Harvey Elliott spoke to reporters after lifting Liverpool to the top of the Premier League with their recent victory over Crystal Palace.

Liverpool know better than anyone how important every point is in the race for the Premier League title. After all, this is a team that lost the title twice to Manchester City despite scoring 97 and 92 points respectively.

In 2017/18, Pep Guardiola’s side finished with 100 points, their best since winning the title in the first season in 1992/93 with 97 points, while 2018/19 saw United lose for the first time.

He flew as one. And in the 2019/20 season, Jurgen Klopp’s men were crowned champions with a total of 99 points.Meanwhile, Chelsea’s run of 95 points in 2004/05 and 93 points in 2016/17, along with 2021/22, are the only seasons where 92 points have not been enough to win the league.

Former Premier League referee Dermot Gallagher.Former referee Dermot Gallagher has hit back at Manchester City’s claims and disagrees with Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher.

That’s right, such a win would have been enough for Arsenal’s ‘Invincibles’ victory in 2003/04 and the first three Premier League seasons in which both teams played four games before the 38-game season.

When competing for a title, players and managers pretend they are not interested in each other’s results. They only focus on their game and what they can control.

But they wouldn’t be human if they weren’t watching the other person and weighing the consequences of each outcome and what it means for their own destiny.

For example, on the day Liverpool controversially lost to Tottenham last September, Manchester City lost 2-1 to Wolves. A point would have put the Reds in second place and a win would have put them ahead.

City drew 2-2 with Brighton & Hove Albion before losing 1-0 to Arsenal. A win at Liverpool would see Guardiola’s side move up to third.Arsenal lost 1-0 to Newcastle United, Tottenham lost 4-1 to Chelsea and Chelsea drew 1-1 at home to Luton Town.

Again, the maximum points are transferred to the second. And if they had beaten Manchester City instead of drawing 1-1 last month, they would have taken top spot. All this is an “opportunity” that could be said to have “slipped” through Liverpool’s fingers before we remember that the title race remains a marathon and not a sprint.

But with the busy festive period approaching, the stakes have been raised significantly for this week’s Premier League third round fixtures. The Reds scored two late goals in two minutes last Sunday to win 4-3 at home to Fulham in a seven-goal thriller.

“Man City” lost with “Tottenham” 3:3. In midweek, Declan Rice’s 97th-minute winner helped Arsenal stay top of the table with a 4-3 win away to Luton Town.

Had they blinked, City’s 1-0 loss to Aston Villa followed by Liverpool’s 2-0 win the following night would have been enough for United to take over from Liverpool.

These are all results that Liverpool midfielder Harvey Elliott has not overlooked.”Not the best, not the best,” he joked to reporters on Saturday, referring to Arsenal’s recent win over Luton.

“Another great club with great tenacity and great fight.“They are contenders this year, they brought in some great players in the summer and they have world-class players. (If we meet) it will be another tough test for us.

“It’s not very helpful. But we can’t focus on other teams. We just have to make sure we contribute. He continued: “I watch football because I really like it. I don’t care what kind of game it is.

I also want to watch the match and learn. I am at an age where I can learn as much as I can and will continue to do so for the rest of my career.”I like football. But yes, you see (your opponent) a little bit.
