‘I don’t know what they were trying to do’ – Ian Wright was impressed by Liverpool’s performance against Manchester City.

 

Premier League legend Ian Wright criticized Liverpool’s pressing during their 1-1 Premier League draw with Manchester City on Saturday (25 November).

The former Arsenal striker said he did not understand what Manchester United wanted to do as their poor pressing led to City’s second goal at the Etihad.

The match between Liverpool and Manchester City did not disappoint, both teams were looking for a win.

With Red’s chasing the Citizens 25 minutes later, Erling Haaland opened the scoring with a fine effort. Expand the tweetJurgen Klopp’s men equalized in the 80th minute through a Trent Alexander-Arnold strike and the match ended in a draw.

But had the Merseysiders failed, City could easily have been 2-1 up. Liverpool’s poor pressing in the first half allowed Ederson to send a purposeful pass to Bernardo Silva from 45 yards. The pass brought out two red stars and led to a Phil Foden shot.

Commenting on it, Wright highlighted the poor media coverage of Jurgen Klopp’s men, noting that it was an issue that arose during the meeting.

“I don’t know what they were trying to do,” the Premier League legend told Match of the Day. “Were they free or not?” Ederson took out 6-7 players with a single pass.

How easily City broke their lines was a problem for Liverpool all day. “It was amazing how easily Liverpool got to them,” he said.

Meanwhile, Wright’s fellow Match of the Day pundit Alan Shearer saw things differently. The Brit praised the resilience of the Merseysiders, saying:

“You have to give them credit for being in the game, staying in the game and coming back like they used to.

“Alisson’s save kept them in the game.”What will happen to Liverpool after Manchester City’s draw? After a 1-1 draw with Manchester City, Reds will turn their attention to the UEFA Europa League, where they will play in midweek.

They are scheduled to face Austrian side LASK at Anfield on Thursday (November 30). They then face Fulham in the Premier League on Sunday and top-flight Sheffield United three days later.

This will be followed by a league game against Crystal Palace on December 9 and the final Europa League group game against Union Saint-Giloise on December 14.
