Al Ittihad have recently shown a strong interest in Liverpool star Mohamed Salah.
The Premier League side were worried they would lose him, but that didn’t happen and the forward is contracted to the Merseyside club until 2025.
Al Ittihad chairman Anmar Al Khayli has promised to explain why his side failed to sign the Liverpool player and his comments were reported by AS.
The 31-year-old’s Saudi club have also failed to sign Manchester City stars Kevin De Bruyne and Sergio Ramos, who have returned to Sevilla.
According to AS, the president of the Middle Eastern club “promised to tell all” about the three failed operations.”I’ve been quiet but I want to quickly respond to what happened with Salah, Ramos and De Bruyne in the last week of the summer transfer window,” he said.
A Spanish newspaper claimed that Al Ittihad are willing to pay Liverpool €233m to make Salah the world’s most expensive player, the €200m Neymar paid for his move from Barcelona to Paris Saint-Germain in 2017.
This exceeds 22 million euros. They even wanted to offer the Egyptian team a deal worth 200 million euros [per year].
However, his decision to extend his Liverpool contract to 2022 and Jurgen Klopp’s comments were among the reasons that “tipped the balance” in the Reds’ favour.
“Salah is a Liverpool player and he is very important to everything we do. The answer is no.
“My philosophy in life is that if there’s a problem, you think there’s nothing left,” explained Klopp. Salah has scored 12 goals and 4 assists in 17 games this season.
