Former Liverpool star Jose Enrique has played alongside Luis Suarez for over three seasons and admits he has never seen a player like him.
Jose Enrique has played with some great players, but none can compare to former Liverpool hero Luis Suarez. The Spaniard was a team-mate with Uruguay for three years before leaving for Barcelona in a £65m move in 2014.
His departure from Anfield comes months after Liverpool failed to win the Premier League title despite leading the league with just three games remaining in the season.Suarez, 36, produced one of the best individual seasons in the competition’s history with 31 goals and 17 assists in just 33 games despite missing the first five games of the 2013/14 campaign. Enrique (37) has played just eight games this season due to a persistent knee injury, but has been pushed to the fore thanks to the outstanding Suarez.
Speaking exclusively to Daily Star Sport (via Grosvenor Sport ), the Spaniard talked about how special his former team-mate was.”What I think Luis can do is something I’ve never seen him do in a Liverpool shirt,” Enrique said. “I know Gerrard is world class, but I haven’t played with him in his prime.
In 2013/14, I haven’t seen a player like that, not just in numbers but crazy players. He’s that tall. He’s for everyone from the field. Luis Suárez scored 31 goals and provided 17 assists in Liverpool’s 2013/14 Premier League season. He said that even 10 years ago, he had never seen a player of the same height as Suarez. “He was different. Give him the ball and you know what will happen. It doesn’t matter if he plays alone against three defenders. I haven’t seen anyone do that in the Premier League since Suarez.”Despite his departure in 2014, Liverpool have established themselves as one of the biggest powers in European football under Mohamed Salah.
Enrique admitted Salah is a “bigger Liverpool legend” than Suarez thanks to his winning side at Anfield. The Uruguayan broke Liverpool hearts when he left for Barcelona in 2014.
“He’s actually breaking records, he’s been around for a long time and he’s won more trophies than Louis in a Liverpool shirt.” Enrique said there are only two players ahead of the Uruguay striker “They are both legends at the club, but Luis is the best player I have ever played with. And Cristiano Ronaldo.”
