Their game reminded me of Jose Mourinho. Who can forget when they came to Anfield in 2016 and were held to a 0-0 draw despite having Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Marcus Rashford and Paul Pogba in the squad? Ten Haag’s side had all the hallmarks of a team playing for points at Anfield. This is without a doubt the worst United team we have seen in a long time. Their game plan outlines the current position of the club and it must be respected. United are in a bad situation at the moment and need a draw. When they arrived at Anfield, they were leaning towards tactics we usually see from small sides, but we should have seen it coming. Unfortunately we are now back to their 5/10 level and we didn’t deserve to win the game. When Virgil van Dijk said after the game that only one team was “trying to win”, it was inevitable. Roy Keane did not appreciate the comments and called the Liverpool defender arrogant for his comments. Let me tell you one thing: Keane’s comments clearly exposed Manchester United’s arrogance. No one seems to have a bad word to say about their club. I heard something similar to what Virgil said when he said the smaller clubs would come to Anfield and defend the whole game and they did the job. United are no different to those teams at the moment. They play like a relegated team.
Until Sunday afternoon, I had never seen a goalkeeper without the ball for 45 minutes. For me, who has been watching football for 55 years, this was my first event. As Van Dijk said after the match, Alisson did nothing in the first half. Manchester City don’t come to Anfield and play like United, and neither will Arsenal come to Anfield this weekend.
They go out to a real football game, they don’t close the door and they defend it to the death. the third and final disappointment Our forwards missed the competition this weekend and it was a painful sight. I don’t know what happened to them but we are really struggling to get things done at the top of the pitch. The start of the season was great, but everyone seems to have hit the same wall, which is far from ideal. I went through a difficult time as a player and it’s a shame for Klopp that all his big stars are not doing well.
Sunday’s 0-0 draw with Manchester United was not the result we were hoping for. But the same cannot be said of Erik ten Haag’s team. United got exactly what they wanted on Sunday afternoon.
From the first moment it was clear that they had no interest in the game.
You waste time, slow down at every opportunity and put everything behind the ball. It almost worked for them. If we had a better striker we would have won 1-0.
