Breakthrough star Jarell Quansah has reacted to Liverpool’s transfer plans and revealed what it’s like to train with the Reds striker.
Jarel Quansah has been Liverpool’s star player so far this season, succeeding Stefan Baicetic last season.
The 20-year-old, who made his Newcastle United debut in August, has made nine appearances for Jurgen Klopp and also made his England U21 debut. But this is just the beginning for the player, who has been playing in the club’s academy since the age of five.
It was a significant step forward for Quansah after a successful half-season at Bristol Rovers last season. Even Klopp admitted he has been impressed with the defender’s progress in the current pre-season.
Arguably, the German admitted in May that Liverpool are looking for a new centre-back this summer. Finally, the sudden departures of Jordan Henderson and Fabinho forced Liverpool to focus solely on reorganizing the midfield.
So the opportunity came to Quansah and he grabbed it with both hands. However, his arrival does not automatically end Liverpool’s search for a new defender in the coming months.
After all, Virgil van Dijk and Joel Matip are both 32 and their contracts expire in 2025 and 2024 respectively.
Despite a promising start to the season, it wouldn’t be surprising to see the latter leave at the end of his contract. The Reds should consider long-term replacements for both players.
Quansah is aware of the transfer speculation and what it means for his first-team future, but is looking to build on the promising start to his Liverpool career.
“I play for one of the best clubs in the world.” He spoke to the ECHO and other media outlets while playing for England Under-21s. “So whether they think they’re defensive or they need another defender, they always have the option to buy a defender.
“To play for that club you have to be one of the best in the world and that’s what I have to work for.”I’ve loved every minute of it so far. It’s been a roller coaster so far. Some people would say they were thrown in the deep end, but I loved every minute of it.
“Every chance I get, I’m still learning the men’s game, learning how to grow, learning the system under Jurgen Klopp. So now it’s just about trying to develop and play the best football possible.
“In fact, there has been a steep learning curve for Quansah in the Reds’ first team. But he wouldn’t have it any other way.“Of course (quick learning curve).
“But you have to do that when you play for a big club,” he said. “It won’t be easy in many matches.
