Former Arsenal striker Ian Wright praised Darwin Nunes after Liverpool’s 3-0 win over Brentford on Sunday afternoon.
Liverpool moved up to second in the Premier League after Mohamed Salah’s brace and Diogo Jota’s goal separated the teams. Nunes didn’t score on Sunday, but the Uruguayan hit the back of the net twice.
The first of Nunez’s disallowed goals was a marginal offside which saw the striker’s finger bounce off Brentford’s last defender. His second was much more obviously offside, but the former Benfica put in a stellar cycling performance.
Although his name was not on the score sheet, Nunes assisted Salah’s first goal. The 24-year-old headed the Egyptian forward before receiving a curling pass from Trent Alexander-Arnold on the right.
It was another impressive performance from Nunes early in his rookie campaign, and one that wasn’t lost on Wright.
Speaking on Day 2, the former England striker said: “I think his communication is getting better every week because of the way he runs the channel.”We’re still seeing some missed opportunities, but overall he looks like a guy whose confidence hasn’t been dented at all.”
“Even if he misses, he will try again next week. If you look at his partnership with Salah, it looks very good.”Nunes has scored seven goals and provided six assists in 17 appearances for United this season, numbers that are even more impressive than last season.
He was also in incredible form throughout the game, regularly testing Brentford goalkeeper Mark Plocken in the first half on Sunday.Fellow pundit Alan Shearer added of the flourishing partnership between Nunes and Salah: “They know when and how to get through it. “There’s an understanding between the two of them: Nunez completed his fourth Premier League assist of the season against Brentford, all coming for Salah.
The two develop an almost telepathic relationship with each other.Nunes continues to impress as the weeks go by, and if he can stay consistent with his finishing, he could really be a big #9.
