Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson was not impressed with Liverpool’s Premier League win on Saturday.
Roy Hodgson insists he is “delighted” with football after his former club Liverpool’s come-from-behind victory over Crystal Palace.
Mohamed Salah’s 200th Reds goal and substitute Harvey Elliott’s stoppage-time strike gave Jurgen Klopp’s side a 2-1 Premier League win at Selhurst Park on Saturday afternoon.
Palace took the lead in the second half through a Jean-Philippe Mateta penalty before Jordan Ayew was sent off for two fouls less than two minutes before Salah’s equaliser.
Klopp later admitted Liverpool had the wherewithal to win, while Anfield boss Hodgson said: “It’s good to know there are still important players who value their play and judgement.
“The first thing I want to say is that I don’t want you to talk about how I feel or tell you that I look angry or upset. Like I said, you can do whatever you want.
“It was a very painful result for us to be forced to play the last 15 minutes of the game with 10 men and I thought we did really well. It certainly wasn’t worth what the team produced.
“I was disappointed with the game. This game was like the game of the day. Should I say that is correct? You will be disappointed too.Palace were awarded a penalty for a foul on Liverpool youngster Jarell Quansah, Mateta who was dismissed two minutes after the first foul following a VAR review.
Referee Andy Madeley awarded Palace a penalty in the first half, but VAR called for Will Hughes to foul Wataru Endo.
Hodgson was then surprised and asked: “Which referee do you want to believe?”
Do you trust a referee on the pitch who gives a penalty and misses another or do you trust a referee who gives a penalty and misses another in VAR?
There is at least one penalty. “We have a goal there, too,” he said.Ayew was booked early in the second half for denying Virgil van Dijk’s quick free-kick and was then sent off for a foul on Elliott.
And Hodgson said: ‘You wouldn’t believe how disappointed and hurt he is. I think some of you have played football. You know what it’s like to have a really great game that exceeds expectations, only to end up losing due to game deciding circumstances.
These feelings cannot be expressed in words.”What can i do? If you need courage, you can’t do anything. I can praise their performance today. I can tell you were unhappy. You can blame the referee.
I can blame it on many things.“But the bottom line is that in this game we thought we would be 1-0 up after 75 minutes but we lost 2-1. “In a couple of weeks I’m going to hold a press conference and say we’ve lost five out of six, six out of seven points.”
