Richard Keyes believes one manager in particular is “ready” for a move to the Premier League and believes the 42-year-old has the ability to manage the likes of Liverpool and Manchester United.
Fans of the Merseyside side will be hoping that Jurgen Klopp continues to play at Anfield for the foreseeable future, but there will eventually come a time when a successor to the German tactician will be needed.
Case believes Xabi Alonso would be the perfect replacement for his former Borussia Dortmund manager and also believes Manchester United should offer “Saudi League money” to replace Spaniard Erik ten Hag.
Case said on his website (via The Boot Room): “I’d pick Xabi Alonso. I will give him money in the Saudi league and manage him for five years.
“This is the only way Manchester United will join the elite and make it possible to attract big names back to the club, rather than old mavericks or young kids.
“We aired this theory last weekend and it was a hard sell. “It’s not ready yet,” I was told. This is true?
“Let me ask you this: if Klopp were to leave at the end of the season, who would Liverpool want to appoint? Alonso Of course he’s ready.
“Alonso is enjoying his time as Bayer Leverkusen manager, with the German side currently three points clear of the Bundesliga leaders and qualifying for the knockout stages of the Europa League, winning all five of their group games so far.
Leverkusen are the second-highest scoring team in Germany’s top flight and will be keen to assess their chances of ending Bayern’s dominance.
Our former midfielder loves life in the dugout and is likely to be nominated as a finalist by his former clubs, including us, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid, in the coming years.
Klopp is under contract at Liverpool until the summer of 2026, but there have been rumors in recent weeks that United could offer the German a fourth United deal.
Alonso could be linked with a number of big clubs as he searches for a new manager in the coming weeks and months.
The former Spain international is in no rush to make a decision as he continues to develop as a manager at Leverkusen.
