Liverpool legend John Aldridge has revealed the one tactic he used to beat Manchester City.
Jurgen Klopp’s side face the monumental task of traveling to the Etihad on Saturday to face the Premier League champions. United are just one point behind Pep Guardiola’s seemingly unstoppable machine despite winning just once in their last seven away games at City.
And former Liverpool striker Aldridge believes the only way his former side can win is by resorting to the counter-attacking football that threatened them at the start of Klopp’s tenure.
He told the Liverpool Echo: “I know a lot of Manchester City fans and the only thing they always worry about is Liverpool. There was no one to fear because only Liverpool held their hand when giving instructions.”I am also concerned that our form has not been good at all in recent seasons.
You can’t go there. I’m not asking anyone at the club or Jurgen Klopp. I will not do this. But I don’t think you can go there and do an aggressive philosophy.
“We’ll see who Klopp picks, but if you go back to 10 or nine, you have to go with the same mentality as at Newcastle or Tottenham – everyone dug in and defended.
“The only way to beat Manchester City is to disappoint them. “Liverpool were 10 men down at Newcastle but came back brilliantly late on to win the game by two goals. September almost got another result from Tottenham despite sending two players off.
