During Saturday’s game against Everton, LFC stewards were asked to remove a number of flags and banners across the political and national spectrum as they did not comply with the club’s flag and banner policy and the Premier League’s additional rules. These included flags calling for direct action, political statements, national flags, and flags that, however harmless they may appear, could incite riots.

It is important that we comply with the rules of football’s governing bodies and keep the safety of all fans visiting Anfield as our top priority. LFC’s current flag policy is to allow commercially produced flags smaller than 2m x 1m with small poles (less than 7mm in diameter and less than 1m in length) in all areas of the stadium.

Flags and banners larger than 2m x 1m may be permitted in the Kop stand or visitors’ area if accompanied by a fire safety certificate and permission requested and granted by the club prior to the match. In addition to Anfield’s long-standing flag policy and following consultation with safety and security experts, it has been decided that Israeli and Palestinian flags will not be flown at football matches for the time being. The same approach can be applied to football games. Other displays, banners, clothing or scarves showing support for Israel or Palestine or related to the current crisis. The main rules for this season can be found here.
