‘It would be incredible’… Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang urges Liverpool man to leave and join Barcelona
After Jurgen Klopp went public with his decision to leave Liverpool at the end of the season, uncertainty has reigned at Anfield.
Of course, things on the pitch have been going well, Sunday’s defeat to Arsenal aside. But still, nobody knows quite what lies in store beyond May. With rumours swirling around some of their top players, Liverpool supporters have a right to feel a little nervy.
Whisperings have indeed been circling Klopp, too. Everybody wants to know what Jurgen is going to be up to next. With Barcelona manager Xavi also set to leave his post at the end of the season, an easy link has been made between the Liverpool boss and the top job at the Camp Nou.
Although it seems unlikely that Klopp would jump straight back into such a high profile role, that hasn’t stopped former Barca striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang urging him to do so.
“Klopp gives you everything, energy, he has won great titles, he is a good coach,” Aubameyang said via Jijantes FC on X.
“If there is a chance for Barca he is a good option, I was very comfortable with him in Dortmund. It would be incredible if could come.”
Aubameyang urges Klopp to join Barca
During his 20 plus years as a manager, Klopp has coached all kinds of players. With Dortmund pretty creative in the transfer market during his time there, you sometimes forget some of the names who have called him their gaffer.
And although his career has gone a little south over recent years, Aubameyang was actually one of Jurgen’s most prolific players at the Westfalenstadion.
The Gabonese striker bagged 41 goals in 94 games in two seasons under the German at Dortmund. He was no Mohamed Salah, for example, but he was pretty good.
From there, Aubameyang went on to spend four years at Arsenal before a brief – yet goal studded – spell at Barcelona in 2022.
His signing at the time represents the muddled thinking that has been on display at Barca over recent years.
By then, Auba was already 32 and had fallen badly out of favour at Arsenal. Yet they signed him anyway then discarded him off to Chelsea after 13 goals in 23 games. Weird.
In the grand scheme of things, the signing and offloading of Aubameyang is just a drop in the ocean of the strange things that have been happening at the club of late.
The Cules may want Klopp to take charge because of his style of football, or his history of winning the games biggest trophies. But arguably the biggest thing Jurgen could bring to Barcelona would be a real structure to the team building process.
There perhaps isn’t a club in greater need of Jurgen at the moment. But we’d be amazed if he even considers it. Take your rest, boss.
